The Dave Perry Series (3 book series)
Tahlequah is the capital of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and a witchy place, no stranger to shamanic warfare.
Dave Perry is a part Cherokee ex-Green Beret DEA agent. He is sent to Tahlequah to investigate a Cherokee medicine man, John Blue Sky, for dealing peyote. Sky is innocent but the chief wants him framed. Dave will not dishonor himself. He switches sides and becomes a shapeshifting supernatural warrior.
In the first book, A Battle of Shamans, Dave Perry takes on a shapeshifting witch called the Raven Mocker who has survived for hundreds of years by sucking life force energy from his victims. In the second, The Return of Bloody Bill, trapped by a past life regression gone horribly wrong Cherokee jazz singer Frankie Behr, takes on the personality of a deadly Civil War guerrilla, Bloody Bill Anderson, . Dave must stop the guerrilla’s rampage before sheriff’s deputies shoot to kill the beautiful girl whose body he inhabits. In the third book, Nightfall of Diamonds, Dave’s daughter is abducted by aliens, and he must astral project to fight reptilian warriors from another star system.
This series is published as fantasy, but it isn’t really. Shamanic incidents that defy the Western paradigm are well-documented. All of these fantastic events are described in books published as non-fiction. Call this series shamanic procedurals.
Dave Perry is a quintessential good guy and nothing in fighting Communist guerrillas or Colombian drug cartels has prepared him for a series of science-defying supernatural evildoers. But he has learned to improvise, fast.
The books are available in a soft cover and Kindle ebook versions.
