Returning from a concert Dave and Nika see a UFO hovering over their horse ranch. Something ascends in a beam of light, and the only person at the ranch is their teen-age daughter, Bit.
Dave astral projects into the UFO and brings it down, saving Bit from imminent surgery. Thus starts an adventure that takes Dave and Nika to the moon, and to a two-mile long sentient spaceship orbiting Saturn that has a profound love for the music of the Grateful Dead.
Nika and Bit deal with virgin Bit’s eight hybrid children and with the reptilian boy she calls Elvis, her first love. Nika has a problem with that.
Dave battles the men in black, the secret space program, a reptilian invasion fleet, and a rogue AI that has taken over the Andromeda galaxy; it has eyes on the Milky Way. That’s a lot for a shaman whose best trick is to turn into an owl.
Oh, and Frankie Behr, the Cherokee jazz singer, becomes a crackerjack space pilot.
Spoiler alert: In the end we learn why the Chinese symbol for “opportunity” is the same as the symbol for “crisis”.
