Part Cherokee retired Green Beret Dave Perry is a DEA agent whose career is in jeopardy due to having succeeded in unacceptable ways. Given one more chance, he is assigned to an FBI task force in Oklahoma. Quickly he finds that the good guys are bad guys and the bad guys are good guys. The villain is a powerful shape-shifting, soul sucking shaman. To defeat him Dave must become a shaman himself, culminating in a midair battle between shifter shamans as raven and owl. The raven mocker is not the only supernatural threat in Cherokee county as we learn in subsequent books in the series.
